Wushinanshan Gr

Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
late Nanhuan-Sinian (late Cryogenian-Ediacaran), Nh-Z (7)

Province:
Xinjiang

Type Locality and Naming

Aksu-Kalpin region. The Wushinanshan Gr was named by Zhang Tairong in 1977, which was published by Gao Zhenjia in 1985. Lithology and Thickness

The lithology of the Wushinanshan Gr is stable. It consists of three formations: The Lower formation, Yourmeinak Fm, consists of a suite of terrestrial glacial deposits (diamictite), which is roughly equivalent to the Nantuo Formation in Yangtze region. The Middle formation, Sugetbulak Fm, consists of purple-red sandstone. The Upper formation, Qigebulak Fm, is composed of carbonate rocks with clastic rocks.

Lithology Pattern:
Sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The lower part of the Gr (Yourmeinak Fm) lies disconformable or unconformable on the underlying Qiaoenbulak Gr (Dongwu Fm).

Upper contact

The Group is disconformably covered by the overlying Early Cambrian Yurtus Fm (Urutus Fm), which consists of phosphatic sediments. This break between them shows a small hiatus.

Regional extent

Aksu-Kalpin region. Wushi County, Xinjiang
